NOTICE BLAIR SPRING CLEANUP

                     OPPORTUNITY TO DISPOSE OF YARD WASTE

 

The City of Blair Spring cleanup will begin Friday April 4, 2025 and run through Saturday, April 19, 2025.  Dumpsters will be provided at the Blair Public Works yard at Third Avenue and Colfax Street.  HOURS OF OPERATION:  4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.  

 

The clean-up site is for Blair residents only and proof of residency will be required (i.e. driver’s license, car registration).

Types of items that can be disposed of: Household and lawn furniture, Mattresses and box springs, Major appliances (Freon removed), Rolled Carpet,  Grills and smokers, Outdoor power equipment (please drain gas and oil prior to disposing), Exercise Equipment, Residential construction materials (concrete will be accepted), Automotive parts, Broken toys and play structures, Bicycles, All types of TVs (rear projection, tube TVs, flat screens, CRT computer monitors (may be disposed of in the roll-off dumpsters)

Tree limbs and yard waste. Dumpsters will be designated for yard waste (leaves and grass) only. Yard waste must be separated from other clean-up waste and must be removed from bags when depositing in dumpster. Tree Limbs should be disposed in the tree pile at the Recycling Center, 440 S. 3rd Ave. 

These items will NOT be accepted: Batteries, Tires, Liquid Paint, Hazardous Wastes, and any items with Freon.

WITHIN CITY LIMITS ONLY

 

THE DISPOSAL FOR YARD WASTE SITE WILL ALSO BE AVAILABLE DURING THIS PERIOD AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO BURNING.  THE DISPOSAL IS OPEN 4:00 P.M. TO 6:00 P.M. MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY AND 10:00 A.M. TO 5:00 P.M. ON WEEKENDS.

 

The Mayor and City Council have designated the dates of April 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 2025.  The Fire Chief may issue permits for burning tree and shrub trimmings, leaves, grass, weed and garden vegetation. Burning is permitted from 8:00 a.m. until sundown on the dates specified by the City Council only.  

THE FOLLOWING TWO STEPS ARE REQUIRED BEFORE YOU CAN BURN:

1.        You must apply for and be issued a signed Burn Permit from the Blair Fire Department. Permit applications can be obtained from Blair City Hall (218 S 16th Street). Office hours are 8:00am to 4:30pm.

2.        You must call county dispatch at 402-426-6866 immediately prior to burning.

 

State law requires a Burn Permit in order to burn during a designated burn period. Burn Permits will not be issued when burning is prohibited by the State Fire Marshal or the Blair Fire Chief due to atmospheric conditions or local circumstances which make open burning hazardous. 

 

Residents may obtain burn permits by stopping by City Hall, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m.to 4:30 p.m. to apply for a permit.  Residents may also go to the South Fire Station, 218 S. 16th St., on Thursday- April 3, and Thursday-April 10, 2024 between 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to obtain a permit directly from the Fire Chief or his designee.

 

The following items ONLY are allowed to be burned with a permit during burning: tree trimmings less than one half (1/2) inch in diameter, shrubs, grass and weed trimmings, leaves and garden vegetation.

 

During the approved burning period, it shall be unlawful, even with a permit, to:

1.   Allow any burning on the public right of way, including but not limited to streets and alleys

2.   Allow any smoke generating debris to continue to generate smoke past sundown. 

3.   To leave any fire, whether actively burning or smoldering, unattended.

4.   Not to have water immediately available within fifteen (15) feet of the fire until all fire is 

      fully extinguished.

 

The official time for sunset for the days designated for burning by permit are as follows:

 

 Friday, April 4 –7:38 p.m.                   Friday, April 7 – 7:43 p.m. Friday, April 10 – 7:48 p.m.

 Saturday, April 5 – 7:40 p.m.              Saturday, April 8 – 7:45 p.m.               Saturday, April 11 –  7:50 p.m.

 Sunday, April 6 – 7:42 p.m.                Sunday, April 9 – 7:47 p.m. Sunday, April 12 – 7:52 p.m.


 

OPEN BURNING IS SUBJECT TO THE WEATHER AND DRY CONDITIONS WHICH WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE LOCAL FIRE CHIEF

 

RESIDENTS ARE REMINDED: THERE IS NO BURNING WITH A PERMIT ALLOWED after Sunday, April 12, 2025.
